Information overload happens to millions of people, don’t you just hate it!! we are all searching for a way to make money online to stay at home with our children rather than work 40 – 60 hr weeks, being left only with quality time.
All of us (not just me) join some sort of list in the hope to learn more about internet marketing, list building, article writing, building a web page, e-bay, traffic, SEO, the list is endless and we end up with hundreds of emails all at once.
My problem was that I joined about 20 lists, thinking that I could learn everything I need to know all in one hit. “BIG MISTAKE!”
I would join give away sites and sign up for more lists thinking oh yes that will help me too in my journey, then I would jump on the next big promotion, and the one time offers, I have a computer full of programs and learning materials, if there was only a key to turn to make my computer do all the work, after all it has everything it needs to get started.
Many a time I have sat at my computer thinking I will set just 30 minutes to go through my emails only to find myself still sitting here 2 hours later “STILL” at my inbox, at 1am I realize that I am so overtired that nothing has sank in.
I even bought ya timer, a program where you enter the details of your task and set it to go off after a set time, an incredible invention that would prove to be an excellent tool for time management, however I found that the time I had set for each task wasn’t long enough and so I found myself resetting the timer resulting in me spending hours and hours at My computer YET AGAIN!.
It gets to the stage where I Dread to open my email program, not only do I have thousands of emails all at once, I am spammed to death with viagra offers, it was funny one night my hubby was sitting next to me whilst I was going through my emails, he spotted the viagra email as the subject line was all in capitals, he looked at me surprised??
I asked him what was wrong and he said “is this some kind of hint” I hadn’t a clue what he was talking about until he pointed the email out to me. I laughed and said someone obviously sold my email ten fold as I get at least 50 of these a day.
Ok back on topic – you buy a product that is supposedly “Newbie Friendly” don’t you just love it when you get the download page and there are ten thousand download links which take forever to download.
Finally download is complete, you unzip the first zipped file, WOW there are thousands of files inside, shock horror!! “Newbie Friendly” goes through your mind, like me your thinking where the hell do I start? You begin to read, Only another 97 page e-Book which is going to give you the missing pieces to get up and running in no time (thats if your a speed reader, by the time I get to the end, internet marketing has advanced yet again!!) time goes by so fast and nothing is sinking in, your confused and totally overwhelmed with the number of files you have to get through before you can make your start.
You receive another email promoting Yet another Newbie friendly – Not to miss opportunity!, once again you become side tracked and buy that one too, before you know it you have hundreds of files and hundreds of teaching newsletters and your plan yet again has gone WEST.
You find your time management program doesn’t seem to work as there aren’t enough hours in the day to keep up with everything you are subscribed to, let alone figure out how to set up the programs you have already paid for and all the files on your computer begin to gather dust and Information Overload is the final result!!
I have been on Information Overload for 4 yrs, and I managed to do this all by myself.

Hi Tara
I can relate to your post regarding information overload. since there are so many new information coming up and each time it seems it will make a huge change from my life, but it never did. Not because of the product itself I believe, it’s because we do not have enough time to try everything.

Tara,
I can relate to information overload. The thing is…did you find an answer? You must have found some way to get it all together as you have an excellent site with lots of valuable information.
This article needs a Part II…How I overcome information overload.
Hi, my name is Cheryl and I am one of Mark Terrell’s students. He has asked me to go to blogs and post for content as well as to learn from the blogs. I’d appreciate it if you would go to my blog and post a comment and let me know what you think of it. To post a comment, just click on the title of whatever you want to post to, and then scroll to the bottom and post.
Thanks.

Hiya Cheryl, it would be a good idea to post an additional article about how I overcame information overload, but really I didn’t but now I know the signs, with learning anything new I keep an open mind and once I feel that I have learned enough for the day I shut down my computer and take a break. I find that this helps me more than anything, as once I did hit information overload, I would shut down and nothing would make sense, the only way I can suggest dealing with information overload is knowledge, try to take it slow if you feel something isn’t sinking in take a break, if you are trying to learn more than one thing at a time on top of juggling a family, don’t sit at the computer when you are over tired. And if you need any help gimme a shout.
I will be heading over to your blog today, thank you so much for the post.
Take Care
Tara
