There are numerous ways to acquire ideas on what to choose as niche topics to come up with content that people are searching for.

Several IM professionals will suggest using Google trends to generate ideas. This works if you like to acquire a lot of visitors in the short term.

The trends information will tell you what people are searching for in the past few days. This is useful if you are a blogger who always posts entries. Nevertheless, if you want a website that will earn money for you without touching it after it’s finished, there other sources of niche ideas that you can use to unearth what we call evergreen niches”.

Evergreen niches are niches that has regular readers over the months, years or even decades. It may take longer to make evergreen websites and you see traffic immediately but once you are finished, all you have to do is wait and watch the money roll in. Create enough everfresh sites and you can have a
steady flow of cash even you don’t work at it again.

As an example, I’ve set up a site about how to make a paper airplane. At the start, it barely earned a dollar a day. It was earning only a few cents a day but I continued with it. I continued building backlinks to the website. Now, after a few months of link building work, it’s already bringing in about $200/month. Note that the backlink building was almost half-hearted. I have several other projects going on. I was able to really seriously and aggresively built links for the paper airplanes site only in early life of the site.

I build links every so often whenever I feel like it. I wasn’t really 100% sure if the niche would bring in good enough amounts of money. I just love
paper airplanes. So I kept at it even if it was just producing very little. Just recently, it started making a significant amount and that will only increase as I continue to get better rankings in the search engines. I am now exerting more effort to acquire more backlinks to the site.

At first glance, it would appear that the niche isn’t a lucrative one. But stop and think: my paper airplanes website will be producing money years and years from now even if I don’t even add anything to it. There will always be demand for information on how to make paper airplanes as long as there are kids.

The site is NOT a website that was solely meant for adsense. It is a useful website and visitors to the site come back again and again. Some even promote it to others.

So that’s the first rule of selecting an evergreen niche. It has to be useful or at least entertaining. People must want to go to your site even if there were no search engines.

Ironically, having that in mind would get you better results in the search engines. The search engines measure how long a visitor stays on your site. If you have crappy content, your visitors won’t hesitate to click on the back button. And it doesn’t take long to figure out if a site is crappy.

Let’s talk more about getting ideas or topics that you can use to put up everfresh websites. People search about how to do stuff on the internet.

And there are websites dedicated to thousands of “how to” topics. You can go to those how to sites and search for the most viewed articles. If you find anything that seem to have potential, dig deeper and do some further keyword research. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to outrank the pages on the older how to sites.

One of the favorites among internet marketers to discover niche ideas is Amazon.com. If people buy products for their hobby, you will know that they are passionate about it and that they will want to get more information about that hobby. So go ahead and search amazon.com for products related to hobbies. Think about fishing, skydiving, chess, stamp collecting. There are a myriad number of hobbies to work on.

One more handy page is Wikipedia’s list of hobbies. That’s quite a long list and I’m sure you’ll find at least one that you’d like to work on. Selecting a topic that you like will help you keep at it even if you’re still not seeing any good results immediately. If you select a topic that you’re not really into, it will be very easy for you to get discouraged.

So we have already talked about two sources of site topics. Generally, how to’s and hobbies will be evergreen topics. Another interesting source that could potentially generate traffic and income for several years are biographies. People will be interested in the life of famous characters. If there’s a well-known personality you’ve always wanted to learn about, this is a good chance to learn about that person and generate income from your research at the same time. There are even TV channels dedicated to biographies and you can get ideas from those TV channels.

We have tackled three potential sources of evergreen niches. Of course there are several other sources where you can find ideas to find everfresh niches. For now, the ones we have talked about should be enough to get you going. Keep in mind that whatever information you acquired in this article is useless unless you go out and do something about it.

Take action and you’ll discover what works and what doesn’t and you’ll be on your way to online success.
